FOURSURE
October 19, 2026 Puzzle Breakdown
Four groups, four words each — here's the connections between today's words.
How everyone did today
Landscaping
Tree, Grass, Flower, Bush
We kick off with the easiest group today, where everything is exactly what it looks like on the surface. Tree, grass, flower, and bush are all standard elements you would expect to find in any basic landscaping plan. There is no subtle wordplay lurking in the garden beds here, just four common outdoor plants minding their own business.
Organs that Sense Things
Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Ears
Sight, smell, taste, and hearing all make an appearance here, courtesy of the standard sensory toolkit on your face. Four out of the traditional five are represented, leaving touch to fend for itself. As the second group on the board, it was mostly a test of whether you overthought kindergarten anatomy.
Red Things
Rose, Lips, Cherry, Ruby
Sitting at the second-hardest tier today, this group relies on the most classic visual shorthand in the book. A rose, a pair of lips, a ripe cherry, and a polished ruby all famously share the exact same shade of crimson. If you spent too long looking for anatomical features, fruit varieties, or precious gems, you overthought what was simply staring you in the face.
Wizard of Oz Symbols
Slippers, Emerald City, Flying Monkey, Toto
You might have needed to click your heels three times to spot this one, which landed as the hardest group of the day. Emerald City, Flying Monkey, Slippers, and Toto are all iconic symbols straight out of The Wizard of Oz. Hopefully you did not get carried off by winged primates before finding the road to the finish line.
Why these four groups
The board's friction comes from Rose wanting to slip into landscaping alongside Tree, Grass, Flower, and Bush, while Lips tries to infiltrate the sensory organs with Eyes, Ears, Mouth, and Nose. The difficulty curve holds because the green and sensory sets are utterly literal baselines, leaving no ambiguity once you isolate their clean, four-part symmetries. Rose and Lips are the true decoys, drawing fire until you spot Cherry and Ruby to solidify the red motif. That leaves the Wizard of Oz symbols isolated at the top, perfectly anchoring the hardest tier precisely because Emerald City and Flying Monkey refuse to blend into any lower-level naturalist reading.
